Bicycled-powered Much Ado in New Mills

Expect merriment, mayhem and cross-dressing a plenty when the HandleBards’, an all-male troupe of four actors on bicycles, perform a riotous bicycle-powered interpretation of Shakespeare’s famous comedy, Much Ado About Nothing, as you’ve never seen it before!

As part of their summer tour around the UK, the HandleBards' will be cycling to New Mills on the 14th August to perform at High Lea Park for one night only at this free event which will be a taster for New Mills Festival, which runs from 13-29th September.  No tickets are needed to watch the show which starts at 6.30pm.

Actors will arrive by bicycle carrying all their set, props and costume with them and will perform the show outdoors in the park for donations.

Those attending are advised to bring a deckchair or blanket to sit on, and dress for the weather.  There will be a licensed bar, as well as food and drink stalls, and in the spirit of English outdoor theatre, picnics are welcome.  Foot and bicycle transport is actively encouraged!

Sarah Roe from the New Mills Festival team said: “We’re very excited to host The HandleBards here in New Mills. These hilarious and energetic acclaimed shows are great fun for all ages and will be perfect for a summer’s evening in the park. We’ll have some great food and drink stalls or you’re welcome to bring a picnic. If you appreciate The Handlebards’ sustainable transport message please do come by bicycle or walk to the show.”

The Handlebards will cycle 1500 miles from London to Edinburgh, which reaches a grand finale at the Edinburgh Festival.
