Book chat - Around the World in Books
New Mill Library, Hall Street, New Mills, Sk22 4AR
Join New Mills Book Chat for an informal evening of stories / poems / novels from ‘Around The World’. Bring your own favourite excerpt / poem to read, or just sit and listen to other people’s contributions, and chat about books and writers offering inspiration from other countries and cultures. All welcome.
To start us off, here is a short quote from Nigerian author Chinua Achebe’s ‘Things Fall Apart’.
“A man who calls his kinsmen to a feast does not do so to save them from starving. They all have food in their own homes. When we gather together in the moonlit village ground it is not because of the moon. Every man can see it in his own compound. We come together because it is good for kinsmen to do so.”
Likewise we have books at home – we are coming together to share them!
Book Chat are reading ‘Around The World in 80 Days’ by Jules Verne over the summer break, so if you’d like to join us for our meeting in October, pick up a copy at the library.
