“Although regrettably, my formal art education at school had to end when I was aged 16, I have returned to making art in my 60s.
I feel very fortunate to live within the unique, vibrant community of New Mills.
In the last few years, I have greatly benefitted from taking part in art classes and groups led by established artists in my local area.
My observational skills and my drawing and painting skills have all improved as a result of their tuition and encouragement.”
Gilly is particularly inspired by nature and natural forms and shapes, being outside in the weather observing the shifts in light and colour, and sometimes experiencing special moments of contact with wild creatures in their own environment. Images and ideas she explores in her art often capture her attention whilst out walking, gardening at home or working on my allotment
