8 September: PRESS RELEASE Mon Sept 7th 09
Local New Mills drama group, Hangout Drama, are celebrating a double boost. Not only was their play “Not in our Lifetime!” a great success when premiered in July, they have now been invited to perform it at the Stockport Air Raid Shelters’ 70th anniversary on 24 October, as part of the events commemorating the outbreak of World War Two. Local people can see it this month as part of the New Mills Festival 09 on Monday 21st September 7 pm at the URC Providence Church, Mellor Road, New Mills. Tickets for this are on sale at The Derbyshire Building Society New Mills - £3 waged adults and £2 for young people, or on the door. The play is topical as it coincides with the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of World War 2 and was inspired by a visit to the Shelter. The group developed their own improvisations into a fully scripted play, which went down a storm with the packed audience last July. It tells of a night in the lives of people sheltering at the Stockport Air Raid Shelter during the Manchester Blitz of 1940. The story is seen through the eyes of two present day girls who get locked in overnight and are visited by ghosts of the past. It has a humorous take on the danger and hardship of living through the war compared to the more accessible disposable society we live in today. See how our girls react to being threatened with a ‘good hiding’! Hangout Drama welcomes young people over 12 years for the start of the new term. Telephone 01663 749402 for more information.
